SUMMER COURSES 2022 LOGISTIC
The AGH – UST is situated in Cracow (Kraków) Poland, which for years used to be a capital of Poland, the town of Polish kings. Nowadays, Cracow occupies the fifth place on the list of tourist attractions in Europe. In this part of Poland there are numerous mines of salt, coal, copper, zinc, lead and silver. For the needs of these mines, the Academy of Mines was founded in 1816, which was the first Technological Higher School in Poland. In 1919, one year after regaining independence by Poland, this school was transformed into a University. Nowadays, the AGH-UST is one of the greatest and most prestigious technological universities in Poland, strongly connected with heavy industry.
Currently, number of branches of science is 67, including 200 specialisations. There are:2154 teaching and research staff employees and 276 teaching staff working at 16 faculties. Total number of students is 23 570 including: full-time students: 17 680, part-time students: 4010, (full time and part time foreign students: 430), doctoral students: 1062 (including foreign students: 68), postgraduate students: 2523 (including foreign students: 4).
In the Polish and foreign rankings of Polish technical universities, the AGH UST occupies the 1st or 2nd position.
The AGH UST has signed 256 general agreements with foreign Universities from all over the world. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics is the first in Poland and eastern European countries since 2017 to have the ABET American accreditation.
The AGH UST is a party to 26 double diploma agreements. The university develops over 100 projects conducted jointly with foreign partners.
Close to the University, a Campus – the so called Academic City (Miasteczko Studenckie) is located which held rooms for over 9000 students in 20 buildings. You can find playgrounds, a swimming pool, a supermarket, and the post office here. There is internet in all rooms.
Generally, Summer Courses have a duration of 4 weeks, with 96 hours of conferences and lab classes (Monday – Friday). The language of instruction is basically English, but some courses are in Spanish. In the courses program (depending on a given course) we offer lab practice, excursions to industrial plants and text books. Alongside the Summer Courses we offer a rich cultural, geographical and historical program of excursions. At the end of the Curses all participants receive the qualification certificate and occasional diploma.
Place: AGH – University of Science and Technology, KRAKÓW Poland
Duration: 4 weeks. Generally one Summer Course embraces 2 topics, for instance 48 hours of conferences and 48 hours of labs (for one student). This year the Summer Courses 2022 start on June-27.
Reporting deadline: April-19-2021 (10 weeks before the start of Course)
Student groups recommended: All laboratories are prepared to work with teams of 15 students. We can therefore take up to 45 students in the Summer Course. For better teaching process, a slightly smaller laboratory group is recommended: 24 (30) 36 (45). In the laboratory, the groups are divided into two or three parts, each of which comprises 12 (15) students.
Language of the Course: English (or Spanish)
Materials: At the beginning of each course, the students receive a package of teaching materials to supplement the contents of lectures and laboratory classes as well as materials to be developed in the form of assignments. These materials are delivered in the form of scripts or are recorded on USB sticks.
Course evaluation: on a scale of 1 ÷ 100 on a base of partial exams or final exam (NOTA AGH). The evaluation of lab works (assignments, activities) may increase or decrease the grade NOTA AGH by 5 ÷ 10 points, which leads to the final grade (NOTA FINAL), which is valid for passing the subject.
Accommodation: In 2021, all students will be accommodated in the Students City (MIASTECZKO STUDENCKIE) in the BABILON building. This building is located 1km from the main part of the AGH UST University. The current cost of a double room (one night) is 42USD ($ 21 per student). Payment is per rooms. Every two rooms have one bathroom with a shower-bath as well as electric kettle and refrigerator. In both buildings, on each floor there is a common kitchen with an electric ceramic cooker. For every two floors there is one laundry with 5 washing-machines. It is recommended that the students should take copies of passports and airline tickets in order to avoid many problems in case of loss or theft. In the BABILON building is the internet as well as Wi-Fi.
Booking of student accommodation in 2021 is foreseen for the time period from Saturday 26 June to Tuesday 27 July.
Summer Course cost: The cost depends on the number of students participating in the Summer Course:
for a group of 25 – 45 students 1550 USD (Course 1000USD + excursions 550USD)
for a group of 21 – 24 students 1650 USD (Course 1100USD + excursions 550USD)
for a group of 15 – 20 students 1750 USD (Course 1200USD + excursions 550USD)
for a group of 11 – 14 students 1850 USD (Course 1300USD + excursions 550USD)
for a group of 9 – 10 students 1950 USD (Course 1400USD + excursions 550USD)
for a group of 6 – 8 students 2050 USD (Course 1500USD + excursions 550USD)
– The cost includes: 96 hours of classes, a package of teaching materials for lectures and laboratory classes, welcome party, farewell party and all excursions (transport, tours, guide). Depending on the type of course, there are also provided excursions to industrial plants.The Summer Course cost does not include accommodation and meals.
Arrivals and departures:
It is recommended to arrive in and depart from the Kraków airport, 6 km from the AGH UST Student City in Kraków. Taxi transport (2-3 persons) costs approx. 60 zł (60PLN) during a day and 80 zł (80PLN) at night and on Sunday. It is cheaper to travel from the airport to the Student City by bus No. 208. Leaving the airport you should turn right, and after about 100m you reach the bus terminal. At the cash desk, you should buy a ticket for 6 zł (4PLN). Buses leave thie terminal every hour from 4:20 am to 9:20 pm. Entering the bus you have to validate immediately the ticket in the appropriate machine. After passing 21 stops you should get off at the bus stop “AGH Miasteczko Studenckie”. Leaving the bus, after passing about 100m you reach the BABILON building.

Leaving Babylon, we always leave our room keys at the Reception.
Katowice airport is located 120km from Kraków. From this airport you can go by a special shuttle bus to Kraków. Tickets for this bus can be purchased together with flight tickets or on the plane.
Warsaw airport (350km from Kraków). From Warsaw you can take the INTERCITY train to Kraków. The journey takes 2.5 hours.
It is recommended that the professor responsible for the group comes to Kraków no later than the group of students, and leaves Krakow no earlier than the group of students.
Time: time in Poland is shifted 6 hours in relation to the USA, 7 hours in relation to Mexico DF, 5 hours in relation to Chile, and 5 hours in relation to Kazakhstan. So when in Poland the time is 3:00pm, there is 8:00am in Mexico DF, 9:00am in NY, 11:00am in Porto Rico, and 8:00pm in Kazakhstan.
Urban transport: The Kraków urban transport consists of tramways and busses. Before getting on a bus or tramway, you have to buy a regular ticket (“bilet normalny”) (e.g. 20 or 60 minutes). The tickets are available at the news agent’s, or in some shops. Foreign students have no discounts. Tickets for tramways and for busses are the same. The ticket price depends on the travel time. A 20-minute ticket costs 4 zlotys, a 60-minute ticket costs 6 zlotys, 90 minutes ticket costs 8 zlotys. Entering a tram or bus you have to validate it in the validator. Finding by the controller the lack of a validated ticket costs 240 PLN + the need to buy a ticket. You can reduce the penalty to 120 PLN by paying 120 PLN to the controller with a payment card or zlotys.
At the Summer Courses, we generally accept groups of students organised by their Universities, but in justified individual cases, we also accept individual students send by their Universities. The students are obliged to comply with the instructions given by the professor-tutor of the University which sends them to participate in the Summer Course.

To facilitate the admission of incoming student groups, please send us – a few weeks before the beginning of the Courses – a full list of Summer Course participants with the following information: their first name and surname (for professors: PhD, MSc, Eng. titles, specifying also the name of the professor responsible for the group); place and date of birth, residence address in Mexico or another country, home phone number (parents or relatives), email address, passport number, names of university, campus, faculty, completed year of study. It is advisable to prepare a list of students, professors and accompanying persons for the accommodation in hotel rooms with the data (day and time) of their arrival in Krakow, and a separate list of students for laboratory subgroups (e.g. 12 students for each subgroup).

SUPERMARKETS. At a distance of about 200m east of BABILON is the “LEWIATAN” Supermarket (food).
At a distance of about 200m north of BABILON, next to the UJ PIAST Student Hotel, there is another “BIEDRONKA” Supermarket (food).
The PIAST Hotel has POST and Cash Machine (ATM). SHOPPING CENTRES. The easiest way to get from BABILON to Shopping Malls (clothing, clothes, shoes);
GALERIA BRONOWICE – from the ‘Miasteczko Studenckie’ bus stop to ‘Galeria Bronowice’ going to the final stop ‘Pętla Chełmońskiego’ by bus 501 (6 stops, 7min) or 114 (10 stops including 2 on request, 10 min). The “AUCHAN” Supermarket is located in the “Galeria Bronowice” building complex,
GALERIA KRAKOWSKA – from the “Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny” tram stop to “Galeria Krakowska” on trams 4, 44 to the “Teatr Słowackiego” stop (Main Railway and Bus Station) (7 stops, 13min). From this stop, go to Galeria Krakowska through a tunnel under Basztowa Street.
Passing through the GALERIA KRAKOWSKA we reach the KRAKÓW MAIN RAILWAY STATION (Kraków Główny) and the BUS STATION.
KRAKÓW CENTER, OLD TOWN. – from the “Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny” tram stop, we go east on any tram line to the Teatr Bagatela stop (5 stops, 9 min). Then going along Szewska street we reach the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny) for about 100m.

April 18, 2022 (10 weeks before the Summer Courses beginning) – the Universities send the list of students on the EXCELL sheet, relevantly adjusting the application form, to the email address: grzbiela@agh.edu.pl.
April 22 2022 – the students receive the information about their acceptance for the Course on the News website at www.summer-course.agh.edu.p
May 13 2022 (45 days before the Summer Courses beginning) – the AGH UST sends an INVOICE to the Universities which send their students to Summer Courses
June 06 2022 (3 weeks before the Summer Courses beginning) – the Universities send a charge transfer to the bank account of the AGH-UST:
